There is a life you say you’ve
lived
So many hours, days and years
Is there really much more to
be seen
Than you escaping from your
fears
And in seeking to escape from
fear
What tactics did you choose
In seeking to get through the
days
What did you choose to use
Reckless passion heads the list
Seeking a chance to feel alive
Indulgence a familiar pastime
Intense diversion to survive
But after each indulgence
What was there ever left to
see
A sense of emptiness and wreckage
And even less freedom to be
How many times did you engage
In judgment and hypocrisy
Self-righteous indignation
No responsibility
If only others weren’t
so mean
Or greedy and corrupt
Your criticism endless
Pointless to seek to interrupt
Despite how right you’ve
been
About how wrong that others
are
Believing that you’re
better
Can that get you very far
Does it end the endless suffering
For you to be so right again
What difference has this ever
made
Right now or even then
What is it that you really fear
What always has you seek escape
Is it your utter sense of worthlessness
Countless self-judgments that
you shape
Believing that you’re
helpless
That you can’t really
offer hope
Your hopeless insignificance
A feeling hard with which to
cope
There are those who’ve
made a difference
You call them special every
day
But you think you can’t
be what they were
You say it’s not your
way
But maybe you have missed the
point
Have not seen what’s there
to see
Maybe you don’t really
know the truth
Of who you’re born to
be
What if the passion that you
have
That boundless pure intensity
Was channeled inspiration
A gift to all humanity
What if a you were born to be
a model
Of a life unleashed to live
An inspired instrument of purpose
Abundant passion there to give
It’s time for transformation
The caterpillar’s time
is through
It is now time to recognize
The lovely butterfly is you
You were born to be a butterfly
There’s nothing else for
you to be
Live the life you’re born
to live
Embrace your destiny
